A new community sports centre and gym at the Wey Valley School will be opening its doors this September. The Broadwey-based secondary school has teamed up with sports facility management company 3d leisure to offer sports facilities to the general public for booking and membership.
Following significant investment from 3d leisure and the school to expand the current sports facilities on offer, Wey Valley’s new sports centre will offer one of largest gyms in the local area. The facilities will comprise state of the art fitness equipment, a dedicated spin studio, a large studio for exercise classes, an indoor sports hall and outdoor sports areas including a grass pitch and netball courts.
Rob Cole, Finance and Business Manager at Wey Valley, said: “We are delighted to be working with 3d leisure. This follows discussions for nearly a year on how the school can better open up its facilities to the community and also provide a first class fitness facility for our students.”
Cole added: “The school is fortunate to have a range of excellent sporting facilities including our sports hall, dance studio, floodlit multi-use games area and indoor tennis centre, and this partnership with 3d leisure will ensure more community and sporting club access on-site after school hours and during holidays.”
Paul Dickinson, 3d leisure’s Business Development Director, said: “As an established company that operates a number of sporting facilities at other schools and colleges, we
are genuinely excited about the launch of this new sports centre in Weymouth. The gym will offer more than 50 pieces of the very latest fitness equipment for fat burning and toning, as well as a fantastic spinning room for indoor cycling which is very popular. We will also be offering a wide variety of fitness classes in the new dance studio and small group personal training will be available to make working out fun with a friend!”
The development will also see changing room improvements, a new office and general refurbishment of all the school’s PE Department. Pre-sales for memberships will be on offer in the coming weeks, starting from £14.99 per month.
Marie Claridge, Head of PE, added: “My team and I are looking forward to working with 3d leisure and providing our students with more and more access to fitness equipment and fitness training. We firmly believe that personal fitness is a key attribute to a good learner and this project will certainly help deliver that for our students.”
Sara Adams, Acting Principal at Wey Valley, praised the project. “As a former Sports College that included a responsibility for community sport, I am really pleased that our partnership with 3d leisure will achieve this aim and bring about a true public benefit for Weymouth and the surrounding area.”
