Are you getting the most from your current fitness and wellbeing provision?

Before organisations move to 3d leisure, we ask them the following questions:

  • Is your gym achieving optimum utilisation and engagement?
  • Is your current provider proactive, or simply reactive when issues arise?
  • Do you have regular visibility of performance, reporting and insight from your account team?
  • How often do you actually see your account manager on site?
  • Is your facility consistently fresh, engaging and motivating for users?
  • Are you confident you are receiving genuine value for money from your management partner?

At 3d leisure, we believe the difference lies in how actively a service is managed—not just delivered.

Our teams bring energy, experience, focus, passion and creativity to every site we operate. We don’t stand still, and we don’t believe in “business as usual”.

When we take on a new facility, we work collaboratively with you and your existing team, transferring staff under TUPE where applicable, and investing in their development to build a culture of ownership, pride and continuous improvement.

The result is a more proactive, innovative and flexible service—one that evolves with your users, your business and your goals, rather than simply maintaining the status quo.

Taking over an existing workplace gym

3d leisure takes over the management of workplace gyms that are already built. We audit how the facility runs now, work through the staffing position, then move the site onto our own systems for programming, reporting and health and safety.

Most handovers start with the same question: why is a facility that cost a lot to build not being used? Usually the answer is programming and staffing rather than equipment. Why outsource sets out the longer case.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Taking over an existing workplace gym is one of the two ways clients start with us, the other being creating a facility from scratch. We audit the current operation before proposing anything.

Corporate gym management is running an employer’s on-site gym as a managed service. The operator employs the instructors and managers, sets the programme, holds the health and safety system and reports on usage. The employer keeps the facility without running it.

Employment law applies where staff transfer to a new provider, so this is worked through with your HR team before anything is agreed. It is one of the first items in a handover conversation rather than a detail settled at the end.

Usually programming and staffing rather than equipment. A gym with no timetable, no instructor on the floor and no communication to the workforce will be quiet whatever is in it. The audit establishes which of those applies before anything is bought.

Not normally. A handover is planned around keeping the facility open, because a gym that closes for a fortnight loses the users it already had. Mobilisation runs alongside the existing operation rather than replacing it on a single date.

The result is a consistent, structured approach that supports healthier behaviours and strengthens workplace culture.

It is designed for the entire workforce—not just facility users. It delivers inclusive engagement through on-site activation, digital platforms and organisation-wide campaigns, ensuring every employee has access to meaningful wellbeing support.

Fill in our contact form and a member of our team will be in touch as soon as possible and we can discuss how we can help you.

How wellness 360 works

Core Activity

Core activity includes health fairs, wellbeing events, health screening, educational workshops, and activity-based challenges that encourage participation across all levels of the organisation.

Strategic Integration

The programme integrates directly with your existing wellbeing strategy, giving you a clear framework to plan, deliver and measure activity across all touchpoints. This embeds consistent, engaging wellbeing messaging into everyday workplace culture.

Preventative Health

A strong focus on preventative health enables employees to better understand their physical and mental wellbeing through health checks, lifestyle insights and structured signposting to support services. This helps individuals take early, informed action to improve their health outcomes.

Hybrid Accessibility

Wellness360 operates seamlessly across both physical and digital environments. On-site services are complemented by on-demand content, virtual engagement tools and remote wellbeing resources, ensuring accessibility for hybrid and distributed workforces.

Measurable Impact

How to set up a workplace fitness and wellbeing facility in 10 steps

3d leisure partners with organisations at every stage of the journey—from early concept through to launch and ongoing management—drawing on over 30 years of experience delivering successful workplace fitness and wellbeing facilities.

Want to know more?

Fill in our contact form and a member of our team will be in touch as soon as possible and we can discuss how we can help you.

Understand employee needs and behaviours

Start by gathering real insight—surveys, wellbeing data, or fitness benchmarking with a sample group.

Secure early buy-in through a steering group and senior leadership support to drive engagement.

Define your vision and objectives

Establish a clear mission for your workplace wellbeing offer. What do you want to achieve—improved health outcomes, increased engagement, reduced absence, enhanced culture?

Clear, measurable objectives will shape every decision that follows.

Plan timelines and investment

Develop a realistic project roadmap covering design, build and launch phases. Establish a clear budget for capital investment (fit-out and equipment) and ongoing operational costs, ideally modelled on a per-employee basis.

Design the space for real-world use

Review the allocated space with an operational lens. Effective gym design is about more than layout—it must support user flow, capacity, accessibility and long-term engagement.

Our expertise ensures your facility works in practice, not just on paper.

Specify equipment and infrastructure

Select fitness equipment, fixtures and fittings that align with user needs, space constraints and long-term durability. Early specification ensures cost efficiency and avoids expensive changes later in the process.

Choose the right management model

A specialist operator brings consistency, expertise and scalability. We recommend engaging an experienced management partner who can deliver a fully integrated fitness and wellbeing solution, acting as a true extension of your organisation.

Build engagement through incentives

Encourage participation through structured incentives and behavioural nudges. This could include wellbeing rewards, recognition schemes, challenges, or partnerships with health insurance providers where applicable.

Create a strong identity and communications plan

Give your facility and programme a clear identity that reflects your organisation’s culture and values.

A strong communication strategy should include internal branding, digital engagement, on-site promotion, and intranet content to ensure visibility and awareness across the workforce.

Launch a fully integrated wellbeing experience

Your gym should be more than a physical space—it should be part of a wider wellbeing ecosystem that supports connection, movement and social interaction across your organisation.

This includes group activity, events and initiatives that build community as well as fitness.

Measure, review and evolve

Ongoing evaluation is essential. Track participation, engagement, outcomes and return on investment to ensure the programme continues to deliver value.

A successful Workplace wellbeing facility is never static—it evolves with your people and your organisation.

The link between physical activity and workplace wellbeing

A growing body of evidence shows that long-term health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, depression and dementia are strongly associated with low levels of physical activity.

The positive impact of even small increases in regular movement is significant—supporting both the prevention and management of these conditions and contributing to improved long-term health outcomes.

For employers, this is increasingly important. Poor physical and mental health can lead to higher absenteeism, reduced productivity and lower overall workforce performance.

Conversely, more active employees consistently demonstrate:

  • Lower stress levels
  • Reduced musculoskeletal pain
  • Improved attendance and engagement
  • Enhanced overall wellbeing

Want to know more?

Why workplace wellbeing matters

There are three primary barriers that prevent people from maintaining regular physical activity:

  • Lack of time
  • Limited access to facilities
  • Work-related stress

Workplace fitness and wellbeing provision directly addresses these challenges by removing friction and making participation easier, more accessible and more consistent.

By bringing wellbeing into the workplace, organisations can take a meaningful step towards building a healthier, more engaged and more productive workforce.

Where to start

If your organisation is exploring workplace fitness and wellbeing solutions, the best starting point is understanding the current health and activity levels of your employees.

3d leisure can support you with this through insight-led assessments and tailored consultancy, helping you build a clear, evidence-based wellbeing strategy that delivers real impact.

Employee Wellbeing Surveys

3d leisure can design and deliver an employee wellbeing survey, either integrated within your existing platforms or as a standalone digital questionnaire.

This provides every employee with a simple and accessible way to share their views, highlight wellbeing concerns, and contribute to shaping your organisation’s wellbeing strategy.

The survey is quick to complete, fully online, and designed to maximise engagement while delivering meaningful insight that can inform future planning and decision-making.

Building an employee wellbeing strategy

3d leisure builds employee wellbeing strategies for employers who want the spend to be measurable. We survey the workforce first. The programme is then designed around what the data says people will actually use.

A strategy usually pulls together several strands that already exist separately: an employee wellbeing survey, health checks, the facility itself, and the Wellness 360 programme that connects them.

Frequently asked questions

An employee wellbeing strategy sets out what an employer will provide, who it is for, and how it will be measured. It turns separate activities into one programme with a stated purpose and a reporting line.

It should start with the workforce, not with a supplier list. A survey establishes what people want and what stops them taking part. Health checks establish the baseline. Buying before either is how employers end up paying for a benefit nobody uses.

Participation first, because a programme nobody joins cannot deliver anything else. Then survey scores before and after, health check trends across the workforce, and whatever the organisation already reports on absence and retention.

Usually HR or reward, with facilities involved wherever there is a physical space. The strategy works better when one named person owns it rather than it being shared across functions.

No. A strategy can run on classes, health checks, surveys and on-demand content without a dedicated space. A facility widens what is possible. It is not the starting point.

DEVELOPING YOUR WELLNESS STRATEGY

Understanding your people. Shaping a healthier workplace.

Creating a successful workplace wellbeing strategy starts with understanding the needs, experiences and challenges of your employees.

At 3d leisure, we can design and deliver bespoke Employee Wellbeing Surveys that provide employees with a confidential opportunity to share their views, highlight wellbeing concerns and identify the areas where support would have the greatest impact.

Whether integrated into your existing employee engagement platforms or delivered as a standalone online questionnaire, our surveys are designed to be simple, accessible and easy for all employees to complete.

Turning Insight into Action

A clear understanding of employee wellbeing is essential to creating a healthy, engaged and productive workforce. Our surveys help organisations gain valuable insight into key areas such as:

  • Physical and mental wellbeing
  • Lifestyle behaviours and activity levels
  • Workplace culture and engagement
  • Access to wellbeing support
  • Barriers preventing employees from prioritising their health

Following completion, 3d will provide a detailed summary report, including graphical analysis, key findings and practical recommendations to help shape future wellbeing initiatives.

Maximising Employee Engagement

The success of any wellbeing survey relies on achieving strong employee participation. Our experience shows that response rates are influenced by several key factors:

  • Effective communication and promotion of the survey
  • The accessibility and usability of the platform
  • Clear messaging around confidentiality and purpose
  • Incentives and engagement initiatives
  • The time required to complete the survey
  • Ongoing reminders and follow-up activity

3d will work with you to create an effective communication campaign designed to maximise awareness, encourage participation and ensure employees understand the value of sharing their feedback.

Health checks

Understanding health today. Supporting wellbeing tomorrow.

A successful workplace wellbeing strategy starts with understanding the current health and wellbeing of your people.

Our Employee Health Checks provide organisations with valuable insight into the wellbeing of their workforce while giving employees the knowledge, confidence and practical guidance they need to take positive action for their own health.

Delivered by experienced wellbeing professionals, our health checks combine digital lifestyle assessments with confidential one-to-one consultations, providing a simple and effective way to identify key health indicators and areas for improvement.

A Simple, Confidential Approach

The process begins with an online lifestyle assessment, allowing employees to reflect on key aspects of their health, lifestyle and wellbeing.

Employees then attend a confidential 10-minute health consultation, where a trained professional will assess:

  • Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • Blood pressure
  • Cholesterol levels through a simple blood test
  • Blood glucose levels through a simple blood test

Following the assessment, employees receive immediate feedback, guidance and practical recommendations based on their results.

Personalised Health Reports

Every participant receives a confidential personal health report designed to help them understand their results and identify opportunities for improvement.

Using an easy-to-understand traffic light system:

Green

Indicates positive health indicators and areas being managed well

Amber

Highlights areas where lifestyle changes or improvements could be beneficial

Red

Identifies areas requiring attention and further action

The report provides clear, practical advice and encourages employees to take ownership of their health by understanding the steps they can take to improve their overall wellbeing.

Organisational Insight

Alongside individual reports, 3d can provide an aggregated workforce wellbeing report, offering valuable insight into the overall health trends of participating employees.

This data can be analysed by areas such as:

  • Location
  • Department
  • Business unit

Helping organisations identify key wellbeing priorities and shape targeted initiatives that deliver the greatest impact.

Maximising Engagement

Health Checks can be delivered as part of a wider workplace wellbeing event or Health & Wellbeing Day, helping to create awareness and encourage participation.

To maximise engagement, 3d can support the development of a targeted communications campaign using a range of channels, including:

  • Internal digital platforms and intranets
  • Email communications
  • Posters and promotional materials
  • Pop-up engagement activity
  • Direct employee communications where appropriate

By combining meaningful health insights with practical support and engagement, 3d helps organisations create healthier, more informed and more proactive workplaces.

Why workplace wellbeing matters

There are three primary barriers that prevent people from maintaining regular physical activity:

  • Lack of time
  • Limited access to facilities
  • Work-related stress

Workplace fitness and wellbeing provision directly addresses these challenges by removing friction and making participation easier, more accessible and more consistent.

By bringing wellbeing into the workplace, organisations can take a meaningful step towards building a healthier, more engaged and more productive workforce.

What workplace wellbeing management involves

Most employers come to us at one of two points. Either you are creating a workplace gym from scratch and want it designed around how your people actually work, or you already have one and it is not being used the way you hoped. We have set out the ten steps for the first, and a straightforward review process for the second.

From there the work splits three ways. We specify the space and the equipment that goes in it. We recruit and employ the team who run it day to day. And we build the employee wellbeing programme around it: a wellbeing strategy, health checks, employee wellbeing surveys, and the Wellness 360 service that connects them. There is a longer answer to why employers outsource rather than staffing a gym in-house.

Frequently asked questions

Workplace wellbeing management is running an employer’s fitness and wellbeing provision as a managed service. The provider designs the facility. It recruits and employs the staff who run it. It delivers the programme that keeps people using it. The employer keeps the benefit without taking on the operation.

It depends on whether fitness management is something you want to be good at. An in-house gym needs recruitment, cover, qualifications, insurance and health and safety compliance in a field most employers do not work in. Outsourcing moves that to a specialist. Where it goes wrong is when a provider staffs a site with self-employed contractors, which is why we employ our instructors and managers directly.

A corporate wellness programme usually combines facility-based activity, classes in person and on demand, health checks and wellbeing surveys. The surveys establish what people actually want before anything is bought. A reporting line back to HR justifies the spend. Very few employers need all of it on day one.

A workplace wellbeing programme is measured on usage and engagement first. A facility nobody visits cannot deliver anything else. Beyond that: survey scores before and after, health check trends across the workforce, and whatever the organisation already reports on absence and retention.

We do. Our instructors and managers are employed by 3d leisure, not self-employed contractors brought in per session. It means consistent cover, managed training and one point of accountability for the site.
